English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL classes help immigrants improve their English skills so they can make a better life for themselves in the US. Improve your English to get a better job, further your education, help your children, or become a US citizen. ESL classes are free.
All ESL classes will be done ONLINE. Classes will NOT meet in person. You will work with your teacher and other students on your phone, tablet or computer.
Classes meet mornings, afternoons, and evenings. A teacher will tell each student the exact time of the class.
The classes are scheduled at a time generally between these hours:
Morning- Monday – Friday: 8:25 – 11:35 AM
Afternoon- Monday – Friday: 12:35 – 3:45 PM
Evening- Monday – Thursday: 6:20 – 9:30 PM
How to Register:
1.Take a placement test. This will tell what class will help you most.
- If you have not studied at Berkeley Adult School before, fill out the registration form.
- Next, if you answered more than 14 questions on the placement test, take the online orientation. (Not required for returning students or lower level students.)
- Your teacher will email you the link to join your class. This could take at least one week.
- You will need a GMail account for ESL classes at BAS. Click this link to get a free Gmail account. If you need help, your teacher will help you.
Who May Enroll:
Berkeley Adult School ESL classes are for people who live in Berkeley and the surrounding communities. Funding for these classes comes from the State of California. We cannot serve people who live outside of California.
